Dear Me,

My dream house by the sea was purchased with my husband as our empty nest weekend home and
future retirement space. The same week we purchased the home, I lost my job and quickly thereafter
lost my marriage. Sleeping on an air mattress in a nicotine-stained house that was barely habitable, I
made the decision to keep the house and begin the renovations solo. With no experience, no money,
and no skills, I slowly worked on the house room by room. I learned to overcome the sadness and
loneliness and started to live my best life through mindset and lifestyle changes.

I created this business to combine my two passions, career coaching and home renovations. On the
surface they may not seem to be related but I believe owning your space (even if it’s a rental) and
making it your own is essential to one’s wellbeing.

One of my mantras is “hope is not a strategy” and what I mean by that is, you can’t hope that things will
get better, but you get to own your life and creating your home as a single person, making your own
decisions is life changing.

So many DIY and home design websites and blogs feature a homogeneous couple, mixed in with cute
kids and a dog. I want to help others embrace the single life and “own being alone.” This may not be
where I thought my journey would be at this stage in my life, but as I say to many of my clients, “control
what you can control” and therefore I continue to navigate the gifts and challenges of being single. I
look forward to sharing my journey and helping others.

I live my life differently now. Fundamentally, no matter what promises we make, the truth is that today
is all we have.
